Well folks, here we are. COVID-19 is still a huge worldwide issue. With things slowly opening back up in California and Washington, I’m so freakin’ happy that couples are allowed to get married again! And while I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to do your makeup for your elopement during this time, we are currently still not allowed to resume business yet. And because I still want you to look and feel beautiful on your wedding day no matter what, here are a few simple tips you can follow that I hope help during this time of DIY makeup!

5 easy tips on doing your own wedding makeup because you can’t hire a makeup artist due to COVID-19:

1. Keep it simple

Don’t try to do anything too crazy or out of your comfort zone! Practice doing your makeup as much as you can before the wedding. Don’t feel like you need to learn an entirely new routine or look.

2. Make sure your foundation matches

This is the KEY for natural looking makeup! Don’t just look at the color shade (light, medium, dark) but take a look at the undertones. Do you have pink, yellow, olive, or neutral undertones? Make sure the foundation you color you choose has the same undertone as you.

3. Avoid SPF

Avoid products with SPF or any white powders. This can leave a white cast or glow on your skin when hit with flash! Obviously, this is kind of a case-by-case basis when it comes to a COVID-19 wedding, since you may or may not even have any evening / flash photography. But if you are, SPF is definitely something you want to avoid!

4. Don’t skip waterproof mascara & eyeliner

If there were any a time to use waterproof mascara and eyeliner, NOW IS THE TIME! Your wedding ceremony will still be emotional, even if it is just the two of you, an officiant, and 100 of your closest family and friends on Zoom!

5. Consider adding that ONE special touch

If you’re looking to elevate your regular every day makeup for your wedding look, consider just adding one simple touch that makes your look more special than your everyday makeup. Some ideas: a bold lip color, false lashes, eyeliner, or eyeshadow! You’re not trying to reinvent the wheel here - just make your look a lil extra special for your wedding day!
